Newborn

“The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn't been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like him.” Pablo Casals

What to Expect:
Sessions are done in the comfort of your own home using natural light from windows. 4-14 days old is the ideal time for posing sleepy milk-drunk babies. During this period, newborns still have that enchanting womb-like behavior that allows us to capture all the beautiful baby goodness. Babies will need lots of milk, cuddles and rocking to get to this happy place so it is not uncommon for these sessions to be 3-4 hours.

How to Prep:
About 1 hour before the session, turn up your heat to 78-80 degrees F, or run a space heater in the nursery or well-lit room that will be the setting for the session. Warm babies don’t mind being naked. Wrap baby in blanket or swaddle to keep warm without clothing on. Start feeding baby about 15 minutes before the scheduled session so baby is well fed and full. Baby will most likely need to eat again mid-session (or even more frequently), this is expected and encouraged so do not feel worried or rushed. We want to make this as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, keeping baby (and parents) happy and calm.

What to Wear:
I recommend parents wear light colors such as cream, pastels, white or neutrals (browns/grays). Avoid black and dark colors. Simple clothing that you feel comfortable in. There is so much beauty and emotion in having as much skin to skin contact possible with your baby in the photographs.

Everything Else:
I will bring with me props such as baskets, pillows, blankets and girl/boy accessories such as headbands and hats. Please feel free to have ready any special items that you would like to include in the session as well – a handmade blanket, ultrasound picture, stuffed animal, gift from family, etc. Pets and siblings are also encouraged to participate. If there are any specific poses you would like done, please let me know and we will try to make it happen.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! It is such an honor to capture these wonderful first moments of your new family together
